Is Your Home as Burglarproof As It Can Be?

BURGLARIES ARE PRIMARILY CRIMES OF OPPORTUNITY

There are a number of inexpensive things that you can do to make your home as burglar proof as it can be by eliminating opportunities for the bad guys. The more you do to burglarproof your home the less likely you will become a victim.

The best thing to do is to get a ''Home Security Audit" from the Posse. All this takes is a phone call to the Posse at 584-5808. A trained Security Officer will make arrangements to come to your home and do a "one on one" security audit with you. There is no charge for this valuable service. The Security Officer will give you suggestions on how to make your home more secure and give a signal to a "wannabe" burglar that you are a vigilant homeowner who has eliminated their opportunities. Have you considered some of the easy things that you can do to deter the burglar? How about:

  • DEAD BOLTS You probably have deadbolts to secure your doors, but are the screws that hold the latch plates long enough to deter a door bashing? The screws should be at least 3" long.

  • ELECTRIC BOX Does your electric box have a padlock to prevent the bad guy from turning off your power? Then when you come out to check the power box, you are mugged or worse.

  • WINDOWS Do you have devices that prevent your windows from being lifted out of the tracks so burglars can gain entry? This also applies to sliding doors.

  • GARAGE DOORS Is the "power out" cord of your overhead door hanging right in front of a window when the door is closed? If so, the burglar can break the window and gain entry by pulling the cord and opening the overhead door.

  • GARAGE DOOR, TOO. Do you leave your overhead garage door open, even a little bit? All sorts of critters can get in .... 8 legged, 4 legged, 2 legged and NO legged Crime could be reduced in this community dramatically if everyone kept their overhead garage doors closed ALL THE TIME. (Not while you are driving your car or golf car out and in, however.)

  • PROTECT VALUABLES Do you engrave your TV, VCR and other valuables with your AZ license number to identify them? When you do that, put a sticker on your window that you have all your valuables identified You can borrow and engraver and get the stickers from the Posse.

  • BLOCK WATCH Block watch is the modem version of that age old deterrent of "neighbor looking out for neighbor".

Again, the Posse can help you form a Neighborhood Watch in your neighborhood.

Call the Posse at 584-5808 to help you protect your home.
